MACBAC February Update

The MacArthur Boulevard Action Committee (MACBAC) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm at South Side Christian Church, 2600 South MacArthur Boulevard.

The Code Changes Action Team is working on a plan to provide neighborhood services, attract new business and increase tax revenues.   They are exploring zoning issues, ways to use space more efficiently and focusing on the MacArthur Boulevard Master plan.

Marketing/Branding/Signage Team has nearly completed their first marketing piece to inform and encourage new businesses and developers to the MacArthur corridor.   The new logo was introduced in the fall.  This team will be responsible for signage along MacArthur that should include gateway signs, identity signs, directional signs, parking signs and kiosks.

Streetscape Team ‘s primary objective at this time is to identify funding sources that could be used for more detailed planning and design of streetscape improvements. They are also continuing to promote transfer of the jurisdiction of MacArthur Blvd from South Grand to Wabash from the State of Illinois to the City of Springfield so that the City has more control over the proposed streetscape configuration.

If you have any questions, you may contact Val Yazell, Chair Marketing/Branding/Signage Team at valerayazell@hotmail.com.

Introducing MACBAC

The MacArthur Boulevard Action Committee (MACBAC) is a mayoral appointed commission of business owners, residents and government representatives who are charged with leading the overall implementation of the Master Plan created by the Lakota Group to revitalize and redevelop MacArthur Boulevard.  Action teams created include Finance, Code Changes, Streetscape, Branding/Marketing/Signage and Development Sites.

The implementation of the Master Plan will depend on partnerships between several public agencies as well as business owners, property owners and developers.  Members representing various stakeholder groups will be encouraged to participate in the implementation process.  The MacArthur Boulevard Business Association (MBBA) is a key partner in creating the long term success of the Boulevard.  MBBA’s leadership and participation is critical to the overall success of the Master Plan.

MACBAC had its first official meeting May 18th of this year.  Monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm at Southside Christian Church at 2600 South MacArthur Boulevard.  The Action Teams report their progress and we hear comments from City officials, Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission, MacArthur Boulevard Business Association and guests.
